various treatments
Donor Services:
Donor egg treatment, donor sperm services and donated embryos
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Donor services in Mauritius as yet. We are waiting for permission from the Ministry of Health.
For patients of Indian origin, we work with a hospital in India, where Dr Goswamy flies three times a year to carry out treatments there. The anonymity of donors there is guaranteed.
In UK, it is very hard to find donors and anonymity cannot be guaranteed. The child has the legal right at the age of 18 to apply to the HFEA to find out whether he or she was conceived by donor insemination/egg donation/embryo donation.
Donor Egg Treatments
Women who do not produce eggs or those in whom the quality of eggs is very poor, may be advised to seek treatment with donated eggs. The sequence of events is as follows:
Initial Consultation
Physical characteristics and blood groups of both partners are recorded.
You may be required to undergo a "practice" treatment cycle, called a "Dummy Run" and Endometrial Biopsy. This may be done in a natural ovulatory cycle or in a cycle modified by a combination of hormone tablets and Vaginal Gel. This is performed to ensure that the uterus can be adequately primed to achieve successful implantation.
Finding a Donor
When a donor has been found we will discuss the donor's characteristics with you before allocating that donor to you.
Your partner will be required to provide a semen sample to fertilise the donor eggs on the day of egg recovery.
“The donor is screened for infectious diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, etc... before donating eggs.”
Embryo Replacement
The best two embryos are selected and replaced 2-3 days after egg collection. Only good quality spare embryos are frozen for future use. The pregnancy test is carried out 2 weeks later.
If the pregnancy test is negative the Centre's staff will give you instructions for a follow-up with Dr. Goswamy, to discuss plans for future treatment.
Donor sperm services
Matching DonorsBefore proceeding with Donor Insemination we recommend that the female partner is thoroughly investigated by blood tests, vaginal ultrasound scan and tubal patency testing if indicated.
All of these will be discussed at your initial consultation.
We aim to use sperm from a donor who has similar physical characteristics to your partner. e.g. colour of eyes and hair, ethnic origin, build and blood group.
If we cannot obtain sperm with similar characteristics to the male partner, then we will match with the female partner. Once the sperm has been assigned, the physical characteristics, and a short biography of the donor can be disclosed to the recipients.
Legal Aspects
Please see Donor Services in UK for the legal aspects in UK.
In India, the Donors will remain anonymous.
Counselling
We would advise you to have at least one session with an independent counsellor before you embark on this treatment.
